Canon EOS 1000d

Canon EOS 1000d

The Canon EOS 1000d is the camera giants answering shot to a number of entry level units from competing manufacturers. Taking up its position just below the EOS 450d, the Canon 1000d takes most of the important features from its more expensive sibling and puts them into an affordable package that is ideal for home use.

The spec sheet on the Canon 1000d is quite respectable, especially for the sub 500.00 price range it is usually found sold at. The Canon EOS 1000d is build around an excellent 10.1 megapixel CMOS imaging sensor that gives it equal resolution to the EOS 400d as well as any similarly priced competitor. With 7 point auto focus and the ability to support any of Canon’s EF/EFs line of lenses you will have plenty of options for long distance or wide angle shots. This combination produces and image size of 3888 x 2592 allowing the Canon 1000d to produce beautiful large prints.

The Canon 1000d also comes stock with a 2.5″ LCD monitor with up to 500 minutes of continuous use from the battery. The display is very bright and works great even in the most intense outdoor lighting conditions. The settings for the Canon 1000d include the standard 6 preset modes normally found on any of the other Canon DSLR models. A high quality flash strobe provides reasonable lighting for after dark photos but the Canon 1000d is fully compatible with any of the many Canon Lighting accessories that have been provided for the rest of the DSLR line.

When compared to the 450d, the Canon 1000d is almost identical physically. The first difference that will stand out to a casual observer is the fact that the Canon 1000d’s 2.5 inch monitor is noticeably smaller than the 3″ version on the 450d. The resolution of the monitor is identical and the .5″ size difference, while noticeable, does not effect performance or usability. Fans of other Canon DSLR cameras, however, will be thrilled to see that the button layout is identical to that on the 400d and 450d so you will not need to learn a different layout if you choose this camera.

For memory the Canon EOS 1000d uses a nicely secured SD slot allowing the use of any size of SD card. The camera can use most any of the accessories made for the 450, including the very popular battery grip that mounts firmly on the underside of the Canon 1000d and provides and additional 900 minutes of continuous use for the camera and the monitor. Any of the common Canon tripod mounts or light amplification accessories are also totally compatible.

In final comparison the Canon 1000d is a very good alternative to the 450 and with its list price of 499.00 fully 150.00 less than the 450 there is a lot to recommend this camera. For anyone who plans to use the camera for purely personal use, the difference is really not significant, while the price savings are substantial. There are several other cameras from other manufacturers at the same price range as the 450, but Canon is the premier name in the industry, and for good reason. You certainly can not go wrong with the Canon EOS 1000d if you are looking for an entry level DSLR that

Nintendo Wii

Nintendo Wii Game Console

The Nintendo Wii is a gaming system that many people have really grown to love. Other gaming systems are certainly interactive and entertaining, but the Nintendo Wii has gone beyond what others have done. It is a system that not only benefits gamers, but also those who want to add a little more physical activity to their lives. With its many different features and Nintendo Wii games you can play, there really is something for everyone.

Many people use the Nintendo Wii for exercising purposes, which adds a little more fun to physical activity. There is a game that is called the “Wii Fit” that is used to help people meet their exercising goals. It records your weight, height, balance, and more. It does an evaluation of your body and at the end, it will tell you your Wii Fit age! You then set a goal for how much weight you want to gain or lose. The Nintendo Wii will put this goal on a calendar and you have two weeks to reach it.

There are other ways that you can get into shape and have fun using the Nintendo Wii. The system comes with the game “Wii Sports” which is a really fun game. You can play tennis, bowling, baseball, and many other sports. It may seem like at first you aren’t moving that much, but once you really get into it you will start seeing the difference. You can play with partners or you can play by yourself.

Another cool game to play on the Nintendo Wii that will get you sweating is Dance Dance Revolution. This is a game that originated in arcades and has been adopted by many gaming systems. With the Wii, this game really gets you moving. There are a few different versions of the game that you can choose from so you can choose one with songs you like. The main concept is to match your feet movements to the arrows on the screen. So, you are basically dancing to the song in a systematic way.

If you are a gamer, you can play all the games you love on the Nintendo Wii and improve your physical fitness as well. The Nintendo Wii is a lot more interactive than other gaming systems and allows you to use more of your body. You have to actually move your arms and body to play the game instead of just using a traditional controller. In most cases, you will need to be standing rather than sitting. Just make sure you are a good distance away from the television so you don’t hit it with your body or Nintendo Wii controller. Use the strap on the controller to connect it to your wrist.

There are so many people who sit on the couch all day and play video games. They get so into them that they spend hours and hours trying to beat the newest game or battle their friends. The only problem is that these individuals are not getting outside and playing sports, running, or doing any kind of exercise. The Nintendo Wii fixes this problem by giving people the chance to use their gaming experiences to their physical advantage. And for those people who were never into gaming systems can use the Nintendo Wii to do their exercise.

Acer Stream

The Android Powered Acer Stream

Technology has grown in leaps and bounds over the last decade. This is due largely to the explosion of the smart phone. The market has almost been monopolized by Apple, but competition is on the rise.

One of the these competitors is Acer. The computer that has played a very large row in PC distribution, and marketing continues now with the Acer Stream. If luck is on their side phones will be much more profitable than the Dell dominated PC market. So far phones invented by the company have failed to hit the mark with consumers. The Acer Stream, by far, has been the most promising of the Acer phone technology.

The market is filled with a heavy demand for multimedia and the Acer Stream attempts to appeal to this demand by promoting the device as media playback device. The Nemo media player is the application used for playback for video media files which include XVid and 720p video file formats. This is good for starters, but the Acer Stream loses ground by not supporting the MKV format for videos. This format has become very popular for condensed Blu-Ray files, and it will be extremely important for Acer Stream to get create an update for support of these files soon.

The Acer Stream has a standard memory size of 2GB. The device also comes with a 8GB memory card. The built-in memory is fairly sufficient for the videos and audio that may be watched and deleted. Consumers that want to build a library, however, will want to consider bigger memory cards. A 32GB memory card is currently the maximum size that the Acer Stream device can process. This is more than enough to build a portable library for video files.

The Acer Stream also has a port that allows you to view pictures and video from the phone on the television. The process, however, is limited by the software application that is utilized by the Acer Stream. The Nemo application is the only output for the phone to television view. Nothing can be viewed on the television screen that is not within the Nemo application.

The screen is bright and the casing is slim. These are features that consumers expect for the Android, and the Acer Stream has fulfilled these expectations. It is an apparent improvement on the design for Acer phones. The design of the Acer Stream is also enhanced with video and audio recording capabilities. Video recording from the phone is great because the phone has a large screen for viewing as you record. The large screen is also good for touch screen menu features that can be cumbersome to navigate on smaller phones.

Sadly one of the things that Acer did not consider in the making of the Acer Stream was creativity. It was very forward thinking to enter the cell phone industry since cell phones are almost the equivalent of portable computers. It was even an excellent strategy to enter the market with a stylish Android phone design. It was not smart, however, to manufacture a smart phone that does not do anything other than replicate what is already available on the market. The cell phones market is flooded. The Acer Stream will have to gain it’s own originality to push new consumers in their direction.

HP Mini 210 Netbook

HP Mini 210 Netbook

The first major feature of the HP Mini 210 netbook is the 10.1 inch High Definition LED Display. The 1080p HD display is run by the on-board Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator 3150 processor. This combination is good for a resolution of 1366 x 768 and is perfect for viewing streaming HD web video or watching HD DVD’s on the optional external 8x DVD drive.

The HP Mini 210′s Intel(R) Atom processor is the ideal complement to the GPU and HD display. The processor choices range from N455 at 1.66GHz to the N475 at 1.83GHz. All processor choices feature 512 Kb of L2 cache. The Atom processor family is the key to the HP Mini 210′s exceptional battery life. HP advertises 4.5 hours of life on the standard 3 cell lithium battery, and up to 10.25 hours of operation on the optional 6 cell lithium battery.

While the 1 GB of RAM is fairly common, the DDR3 standard is not. Most competitor’s netbooks feature the older DDR2, but the HP Mini 210 steps it up to the next level. It also features an available 2 gigabytes or RAM as an optional upgrade. With a total of 2 gigs of shared system memory, you can run more programs at the same time without bogging down. With the HD video, Atom processor, and 2 Gigabytes of RAM, the HP Mini 210 is everything a mini netbook usually is not. If you are in the market for a netbook that has can take full advantage of the internet and more, then the HP Mini 210 is for you.

Acer Aspire Revo R3610

The Acer Aspire Revo R3610

If you’ve got limited space, a tight budget and are looking for a computer for web surfing, emailing, sharing photos or instant messaging the Acer Aspire Revo is the product for you. Loaded with an Intel Atom Processor, you get the same power available with most netbooks, but the Acer Aspire Revo R3610 includes a wireless keyboard and mouse, giving the user more control than the typical netbook set up.

The perfect size for apartments, dorms and student bedrooms, the Acer Aspire Revo, is an attractive ultra-sllim desktop (or “nettop”) that comes equipped with a pair of tiny USB speakers for listening to your favorite music and is delivered with 2GB RAM on board, which is expandable to 4GB with it’s easily accessible case. The Acer Aspire Revo uses Nvidia Ion graphics giving it an advantage over similar systems with other graphics solutions. It’s six USB ports and single ports for HDMI, Ethernet, eSATA, VGA and SPDIF provides plenty of room for all your peripheral devices and networking needs. The Acer Aspire Revo also comes with a memory card reader to make photo and music storage a breeze and it’s simple connecting to the internet or home network with the built-in 802.11b/g WiFi controller. Powered by Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium edition, the Acer Aspire Revo gives the user a full version of the latest software, not the wimpy Starter Edition.

A unique feature of the Acer Aspire Revo is the ability to attach it’s sleek case to the back of your monitor (the monitor is not included) freeing up valuable desk space. The attachment position is adjustable to fit a variety of monitors, giving the user a wide range of display possibilities to choose from. The Acer Aspire Revo would be a great addition to the kitchen with it’s out of the way design, perfect for accessing those internet recipe sites.

The Acer Aspire Revo features whisper quiet operation thanks to it’s low power dual Core Atom 330 processor (running at 1.6Ghz with 1MB L2 Cache,) progressive design and creative component placement. College students won’t have to worry about disturbing their sleeping roommate when they’re up late making those last minute changes to their term papers.

You can enjoy the latest HD video from sites like Hulu or Netflix on the Acer Aspire Revo with the Adobe Flash 10.1 beta, which supports the nvidia ION chipset. Videos play flawlessly, adding another facet to your online entertainment choices.

Suprisingly, while the Acer Aspire is by no means a gamer’s computer, it is meaty enough for some light gaming applications.

Finally, the most impressive feature of the Acer Aspire Revo is the value for the price. When you consider the performance, included software and sleek modern design, the tiny price tag (when compared to other systems) is impressive. The only drawback is the absence of an included monitor with the Acer Aspire Revo. A low-cost monitor option would be a welcome addition to the Acer Aspire Revo package.

Tiny nettops like the Acer Aspire Revo will be the next big thing.

Apple Mac Mini

The New Apple Mac Mini

The Apple Mac Mini may just very be the most perfect compact-sized computer on the market. It looks to be the same type of computer as the models before it, however the shell of the computer is now made from CNC machined aluminum, just like the MacBook Pro notebooks. It is also has a bit of a different shape which is lower and wider than Apple’s last version of it.

Another noted change to the Apple Mac Mini is the removal of its DVI socket; which was replaced by an HDMI output. One great feature about the Apple Mac Mini is that it can also be used as a home entertainment center. All you have to do is simply plug in the power cord, and hook up via HDMI to your HDTV. Follow those few easy steps and you are set to enjoy your home entertainment experience. Keep in mind though that the Apple Mac Mini DisplayPort-To-DVI adapter is another accessory which is sold separately and costs around $30.00.

The new Apple Mac Mini also uses 25% less power than any other models before it, It’s also a very quiet machine. Even when the computer is in the middle of a task you can barely hear a noise coming from it.

As far as using your Apple Mac Mini computer for gaming: It’s unlikely that it’s the best machine out there for gamers, but the resolution quality is acceptable for anyone who wishes to use it as such. It’s also very impressive that this computer can be used as a media center. The remote for the Apple Mac Mini can be purchased additionally for just about $20.00. The Apple Mac Mini computer also offers you quick access to Movies, DVD’s, iTunes music as well as your iPhoto photos. The Apple Mac Mini’s back panel hosts all other types of ports as well as connectors. Another great added feature to the Apple Mac mini’s back panel is a built-in SD-card reader.

The Apple Mac Mini is also very simple and easy to upgrade.. Simply twist the circular base-plate off of the bottom of the machine; this will allow you to access the RAM slots where you can in turn upgrade it’s memory. Apple upgrades can be quite expensive so it’s best to do them yourself. It’s really not all that hard to figure out on your own.

The Apple Mac Mini is definitely a great alternative to the MacBook, especially for the price. At just around $6.99 the price is right. The size is perfect too, measure in at 1.4 high and 7.5 inches square. It’s Apple’s smallest and cheapest desktop computer yet. It seems as though Mac Mini has already started to build a fan base for itself.

The Apple Mac Mini will continue to remain an impressive piece of machinery that fits quite a bit of computer power into such a small package. The Apple Mac Mini is versatile as a desktop computer and is appealing to old and young alike.

Sony Playstation 3

Playstation 3 Slim

Playstation 3 Slim

Innovation has always been a main part of Sony’s vocabulary. When it came to developing the very first PlayStation, the bar had been raised. No one could of thought of saving progress you made in every game on a little plastic memory card. That was the best technology had to offer back in 1994. The best selling game for the original PlayStation was Gran Turismo, which sold more than 10 million copies worldwide. 6 years later came the PS2. The PS2 looked nothing like the original PlayStation. The PS2 was black and you just insert the disc in and a magic gremlin took the disc and made it play inside the machine. No one, except for Sony themselves, could prepare for the PS3.

The PS3, released on November 11th, 2006 in Japan, and 6 days later in North America, blew away all competition. The PS3 is a huge dome shaped, shiny piece of machinery that, surprising to a lot of people, doesn’t need a memory card to save your progress in your game. That’s right, no memory card to keep track of. The PS3 contained an internal hard drive that, depending on how much you spent on it, saved anywhere from 20GB to 180GB of games. You could also save pictures, music and videos on there as well. And with a wireless connection, you can even go on the internet. When you bought the Playstation 3, not only did you get a video gaming console, but you also got a blu-ray player built-in. Not only can you enjoy regular DVD’s but you can also enjoy the crisp picture of blu-ray DVDs as well.

The Wi-Fi capabilities of the Playstation 3 not only help when you want to go on the internet, but also help when you want to sync up your bluetooth and use it has a wireless headset while online gaming. Many games that are available for the PS3 have the option of playing with other PlayStation network members who are playing the same game.

Yea, the console pretty much beats out the entire competition. The online gaming is not only free, unlike the X-box 360, but it’s also amazing. When Sony originally released the console, however, there was a basic 20GB model, which was just the basic save-your-games type of hard drive, and a 60GB model which also had several different features, like the ability to go on the internet, and save other files rather than just games. The original PS3 has 5 different hard drive capacities: 20GB, 40GB, 60GB, 80GB and 160GB. The only visual differences between the models are the number of USB ports, which is used for saving data onto a flash drive and charging the wireless controller, and the color of the trim around the outside of the console. Using the USB ports, you can also plug in your PSP, which is the portable version of the PlayStation consoles, and use the PSP as a controller.

Sony came out with a slimmer version of the PS3 and called it the PS3 Slim. The PS3 Slim is 33% smaller, uses anywhere from 34%-45% less power and comes in four different hard drive capacities: 120GB, 160GB, 250GB and 320 GB. The PS3 slim is the only version that is still in production. Everything about Sony’s electronics is amazing and the PS3 doesn’t disappoint. The initial purchase costs a little more, but in the long run, you won’t feel wronged with your decision.
