Lenovo T410s leaks out, features not one but two ThinkLights

November 16th, 2009 Gadget Reviews No comments

Two Lenovo leaks in one day? Our cup runneth over. It feels like we just played with the T400s and the T400s touch just yesterday, but we did see some leaked slides forecasting a T410s for January back in June, so these images are basically right on schedule. Big changes include a couple more USB ports here and there, some cleaned-up design, and — big news — the addition of a second display-mounted ThinkLight keyboard light. That’s simply decadence, friends. No word on specs, pricing or a release date, but we’ve got a feeling we’ll be finding out more real soon.

[Thanks, Adam]

Olympus E-P2 leaks out again, brings along lofty price tag

November 4th, 2009 Gadget Reviews No comments

We heard way back in August that an E-P2 could be on tap for a late 2009 release, and while it doesn’t appear that the actual ship date will happen before next year, we’d be shocked if Olympus didn’t come clean with its second Micro Four Thirds camera here soon. We’ve seen leak after leak after leak, and now we’re staring at what appears to be a few press images of the not-yet-released camera. Reportedly, the 12.1 megapixel shooter will feature AF tracking, an electronic viewfinder, a black color option, 3fps shooting and a 720p movie mode. Nothing earth-shattering, but an appreciated update nonetheless. We’re told that it’ll be available across the pond in January for the mildly stunning price of £849 ($1,406), but at least that sum includes a 14-42mm lens. Or so they say.

Olympus E-P2 tap keeps leaking, new viewfinder now on show

October 30th, 2009 Gadget Reviews No comments

Now this is how you build up anticipation for a new product. Start off with just the name accidentally popping up on one of your corporate websites in order to get our imaginations flowing, then leak a teeny tiny image of the optional viewfinder. There’s actually a good bit of info here — you can tell the new attachment (titled VF-2) seems to be vertically adjustable, something missing from the previous generation, but there’s also the bogus news that it’ll fit only the forthcoming E-P2. The silver lining to that knowledge, though, is that the body we can only partially see must be the as yet unannounced E-P1 successor, which means the new Micro Four Thirds shooter will at least have the option of a black body… which some people care about. Deeply.

Sony Alpha A750 keeps with tradition, leaks out ahead of release

October 30th, 2009 Gadget Reviews No comments

Minolta’s Sony’s DSLR range was refreshed only this August, but here we are, hearing rumblings of another new addition to the bunch. Set to occupy the space between the 14.2 megapixel A550 and 24.6 megapixel full frame A850, the imaginatively titled A750 is expected to strike the perfect balance between the two with a 14.6 megapixel full frame sensor. We see what you did there, Sony, very clever. If you ask us, anything over a solid dozen million pixels is overkill and just asking for noise trouble and processing lag, so in fact chopping a third off the A850’s pixels could turn out to be quite a boon for overall image quality. Then again, we’ve no idea what else Sony might sever from its higher offering, though we’re likely to find out by CES 2010 at the latest.

[Thanks, David G]

Sprint newsletter lets slip Instinct HD

September 11th, 2009 Gadget Reviews No comments

Samsung still hasn’t come completely clean with its forthcoming Instinct HD, but it might as well. A recent Sprint Premier Connection newsletter not only introduced the Any Mobile, Anytime plan that was detailed this morning, but it also let slip a staggeringly pixelated image of the Instinct HD. Sprint tells us a few things we already knew — like how the phone has a 3.2-inch display that’s decidedly not high-def, a 5 megapixel camera and an improved web browser — while leaving us to wonder about things like price after rebate. We’ll take “Coming soon!” to mean “within the next month or so.” Right, Sprint?

[Thanks, Ellis]

T-Mobile BlackBerry Onyx press image leaks out

September 8th, 2009 Gadget Reviews No comments

The BlackBerry Onyx hasn’t exactly kept itself a secret in the past few months, so it’s no surprise that we’re seeing what looks to be the official press image and release from T-Mobile well before the handset’s launch. No big surprises here, really — it’s still a 3G mashup of the Bold and the Curve 8900 with that new optical trackball — but apparently RIM’s preloading it with the Amazon MP3 store, so that’s slightly interesting. From what we can tell, it’s due in early November, but pricing is still a mystery — hopefully RIM and T-Mobile have saved the best surprise for last.

“3rd-Generation” iPod touch accessories appear on Best Buy’s website

September 8th, 2009 Gadget Reviews No comments

At this point it would be bigger news if Apple didn’t announce new iPods tomorrow, but just in case you had some doubts, Best Buy’s gone ahead and posted up some listings for Belkin’s “3rd-Generation” iPod touch cases a little early. Sadly, there aren’t any pictures to be had, but hey — we’ve already seen a few of these cases in person, you know? They’re putting cameras in iPods, people. What happens next… is up to you.

Update: And hey — looks like there are some 5G iPod nano cases listed as well. Shocking!

LG Etna Android phone sneaks onto the scene at IFA

September 7th, 2009 Gadget Reviews No comments

Well, well, looks like LG’s got more in its Android bag than just that GW880 for China Mobile. Vodafone was casually displaying the Android-based Etna at its IFA booth, and while we don’t know too much about the QWERTY slider, we do have some basic specs — you’re looking at 3-inch touchscreen, a five megapixel camera, and what looks like a pretty stock Android install. No word on price or release date, but LG is supposedly launching three Android sets this year, so we’re hoping we’ll find out more real soon.

Update: LG tells us that the Etna will be available in Germany “before Christmas.”

HP dm1 and dm3 ultraportables leaked, Pavilion dv8 to pack Core i7? Update: Mini 311 has ION!

September 7th, 2009 Gadget Reviews No comments

Eager HP fans have been doing some digging around and have uncovered details on the company’s Fall updates. Heading the pack will be the 18.4-inch dv8, set to feature a quad-core Core i7 720QM CPU, 640GB of storage and 4GB of memory. The processor formerly known as Clarksfield has 6MB of onboard cache and can be Turbo Boosted to 2.8GHz, which should do justice to the gargantuan screen size and included Blu-ray drive. If, on the other hand, you want to be able to move your laptop, there’s the CULV-powered 11.6-inch dm1 or 13.3-inch dm3 (pictured). Both will come with 1366 x 768 glossy displays, while the dm3 will also offer a cheaper AMD Neo flavor. Another three models, a TM2 tablet and Mini 210 and 311 netbooks, are also known by name if not spec. While the usual pinch of salt is advisable, a Dutch website already has the new laptops listed in its price comparison engine, corroborating the specs and the expected arrival alongside Windows 7’s October 22 release.

Update: We’ve also come across the specs for the Mini 311. Apparently, it’ll be an 11.6-inch NVIDIA ION machine, with the Microsoft-mandated Atom N270, 1GB RAM, 160GB HDD spec and a six cell battery. See it in the flesh after the break.

AT&T yanks BlackBerry Bold visual voicemail software update

September 5th, 2009 Gadget Reviews No comments

Hope you Bold owners out there managed to snag AT&T’s BlackBerry Bold visual voicemail software update while it lasted, because an internal memo leaked to BGR says it’s been pulled due to compatibility problems with “network enhancements being deployed.” That sounds to us like there’s an issue with either those 850MHz 3G rollouts or whatever black magic Ma Bell’s doing to get iPhone MMS up and running, but either way, it’s one more fire for AT&T’s engineers to put out while its customers sit around waiting.

Update: AT&T just sent us their official word on the matter — and they also told us it has nothing to do with MMS or 850. Check it out after the break.
