Lenovo ThinkPad W701 hints at Core i7 Extreme in FCC reveal

November 17th, 2009 Gadget Reviews No comments

Lenovo can’t be feeling too much warmth toward the FCC right now. After Intel and Wistron combined to remove any mystery from its next IdeaPad, here comes the latter with yet another filing revealing yet more tasty morsels of knowledge. Wistron’s latest submission is for a “Notebook Computer with Wacom Digitizer,” which immediately points us toward the high-end ThinkPad W series, with the W700 being the only Lenovo laptop to sport such an appendage so far. Reassuringly, the new model name appears to be W701 and we’ve spotted a 2GHz Intel CPU, 320GB Fujitsu HDD, and a Samsung-made 17-inch WUXGA (1920 x 1200) display in amongst the test specs. If your appetite hasn’t been titillated already, the only contemporary mobile CPU from Intel that we know to run at a default speed of 2GHz is the quad-core Core i7-920XM, which comes with 8MB of L3 cache, 3.2GHz single-core max speed, 55W TDP, and a truly stratospheric price. We might have a Holiday Gift Guide candidate for 2010 already.

Lenovo T410s leaks out, features not one but two ThinkLights

November 16th, 2009 Gadget Reviews No comments

Two Lenovo leaks in one day? Our cup runneth over. It feels like we just played with the T400s and the T400s touch just yesterday, but we did see some leaked slides forecasting a T410s for January back in June, so these images are basically right on schedule. Big changes include a couple more USB ports here and there, some cleaned-up design, and — big news — the addition of a second display-mounted ThinkLight keyboard light. That’s simply decadence, friends. No word on specs, pricing or a release date, but we’ve got a feeling we’ll be finding out more real soon.

[Thanks, Adam]

Lenovo IdeaPad shown to possess Pineview CPU by FCC photo shoot

November 16th, 2009 Gadget Reviews No comments

Remember that Pine Trail fast-tracking we were talking about? Yeah, it’s for real. Intel’s latest submission to the FCC reveals details of a new member of Lenovo’s IdeaPad netbook range, and is the first confirmed sighting of the Pineview processor every netbook diehard has been waiting for. The documentation suggests an S10-3 moniker for the new 10.1-inch 1024 x 600 machine, which is likely to pair up that Atom N450 with 2GB of RAM and 250GB of storage. Click past the break to see the sticker with all the specs on it, and do make your voices heard in the comments below regarding that buttonless touchpad — a Synaptics ClickPad, perchance?

Qualcomm shows off Snapdragon-powered Lenovo smartbook for AT&T

November 12th, 2009 Gadget Reviews No comments

It may still have a few lingering problems with the “smartbook” name, but it looks like Qualcomm is pushing ahead with the still-nascent product category nonetheless, with CEO Paul Jacobs taking advantage of a recent investor get-together in New York to show off a new Lenovo-built smartbook that will apparently be offered by AT&T. Unfortunately, neither Lenovo nor AT&T is saying anything about the device just yet, and Jacobs doesn’t seem to have offered much more than what was already known from the standard smartbook specs. There is the requisite low-res photo captured from the webcast, however, and all parties involved should be doing plenty more talking when this one makes its official debut at CES in January.

Lenovo IdeaPad U150 11.6-inch ultraportable hits the streets with $699 asking price

November 10th, 2009 Gadget Reviews No comments

Just in case it had slipped your mind, now is a pretty great time to be looking for a computer. Take this IdeaPad U150 from Lenovo which just started shipping, for instance. For $699 you can get a CULV processor, 3GB of RAM and a 250GB HDD stuffed inside a 3 pound, 0.75-inch thick enclosure, with a 11.6-inch 1366 x 768 display and Windows 7 Home Premium. Bump it up to $849 and you’re looking at better internals all around, and while those Intel X4500 graphics might be holding you back performance-wise, the external looks and build quality of this thing almost make up for it.

Lenovo goes crazy, lets you switch Fn and Ctrl keys in BIOS

November 5th, 2009 Gadget Reviews No comments

Some people, including certain Engadget editors, just can’t live without a Ctrl key in the bottom left of their keyboard and a Delete key in the top right. Call it Windows shortcut addiction, but the miniscule adjustment of having to step one key inwards to do our thing totally messes with our mojo. Well, after slapping on some massive Delete and Esc buttons on its T400s, Lenovo is now taking care of the Ctrl freaks by offering up a BIOS option to switch that all-important key with the Fn button. Regrettably, current Lenovo owners won’t be getting it as an update, but the Switch Mode will be available “in all future ThinkPad models,” giving us yet more reason to be excited about that rumored X200e machine.

Lenovo IdeaPad U150 gets unboxed and critiqued (video)

November 5th, 2009 Gadget Reviews No comments

We spotted the IdeaPad U150 sitting pretty as far back as CEATEC, but now it seems the 11.6-inch beaut is finally finding its way out into the wild, wild… wilds. The suave folks over at Netbooked were able to wrap their paws around a retail unit, and aside from just unboxing it on video (which was a nice gesture in its own right), they also ran it through some basic tasks and spit out a few general opinions. Hit the links below if you’d like to follow the journey from undressing to battery life testing, and hop on past the breaks if you’re into this hot new thing called “video.”
