Nokia E72 in stores now, somewhere

November 16th, 2009 Gadget Reviews No comments

Amazon’s US pre-order site hasn’t heard the news yet nor has Nokia USA’s on-line store. Nevertheless, Nokia assures us that the E72 is “in stores now” and should cost €350 (as announced) before taxes and carrier subsidies are applied. Remember, this S60-powered followup to the much loved E71 sports a new 5 megapixel autofocus camera, 3.5-mm headphone jack, microSD slot (4GB included in the box), A-GPS and integrated compass, 10.2Mbps HSDPA, and new optical navigation pad right where a thumb would like it. The E72 also packs the latest version of Ovi Maps and Nokia Messaging with homescreen access to your IM accounts. Now scram buster and let us know if your pre-orders have been filled — this baby’s not going to unbox itself.

iBuyPower ships Core i7-powered Battalion 101 W870CU gaming laptop

November 12th, 2009 Gadget Reviews No comments

You could certainly argue that many of today’s gaming laptops are fungible, but if you’re scouting a new beast with a Core i7 within and plenty of customizable options, iBuyPower has one of the few available today. The outfit has just launched its Battalion 101 W870CU, a 17.3-inch behemoth with a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution LCD, up to 8GB of DDR3 RAM, a 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280 GPU, up to 500GB of hard drive space, an optional Blu-ray drive, built-in 7-in-1 card reader, gigabit Ethernet, WiFi and Windows 7 Home Premium. It’s up for order as we speak, but you’ll be coughing up at least $2,505 for the privilege. Or, you know, you could just snap up ASUS’ Core i7-equipped G51J, which retails for just $1,499…

ASUS delivers Eee PC T91MT to Amazon.com, completes world tour

November 9th, 2009 Gadget Reviews No comments

It was only two weeks ago when the ASUS T91MT — the first-ever Windows 7 convertible netbook — dropped by Amazon’s German site, and now the Eastern wind from Taiwan has finally reached US soil. Amazon.com buyers are offered pretty much the same configuration as their European counterpart: Intel Atom Z520, 8.9-inch multitouch swivel screen, 1GB RAM and Windows 7 Home Premium. While there’s only one color option available for now, those who’re cool with white will be spoiled with a 32GB SSD — twice as much as the German version yet $200 cheaper. Any students out there going to pick one of these up for some improved note-taking before Christmas exams?

[Thanks, Bernard]

Creative’s ZEN X-Fi2 touchscreen PMP now on sale

November 8th, 2009 Gadget Reviews No comments

Candidly speaking, we can’t honestly envision too many of you fine folks running out and purchasing one of Creative’s new ZEN X-Fi2 portable media players given the availability of such robust alternatives. That said, we’d be remiss of our duties if we didn’t point out that the PMP which shocked us at IFA is now on sale directly from Creative. $129.99 buys you an 8GB model, while $179.99 nets you 16GB and $229.99 provides 32GB. We know — that 3-inch LCD and integrated FM tuner look good from afar, but remember kids, it’s all about the UI.

[Thanks, Tyler]

Vuzix Wrap 310 video eyewear ships out to virtual big-screen lovers

October 25th, 2009 Gadget Reviews No comments

Vuzix’s $249.95 Wrap 310 is probably the least hideous / heinous of the video eyewear options on the market today, and while it’s still take a few bottles of Jack to get us to rock these with a smile, those who are just high on life can now make a set their own. In case you’re forgotten, these things provide a virtual 55-inch screen in front of your eyes, and there’s support for iPod / iPhone connections as well as basic sources such as DVD players and the like. And hey, there’s also the possibility that these could be used in augmented reality applications in the future, so feel free to considering this some sort of futuristic investment. Just like those Y2K preparedness tapes you bought in ‘99.

ASUS’ 11.6-inch 1101HA netbook finally on sale in America

August 5th, 2009 Gadget Reviews No comments

Call it coincidence or call it fate, but just as soon as we saw Samsung's 11.6-inch N510 netbook go on sale across the pond, ASUS' long-awaited 11.6-inch Eee PC 1101HA has netted itself a date with UPS here on US soil. The machine is the first in the Seashell range to boast a display larger than 11 inches, though the atypical WXGA (1,366 x 768) panel is about the only thing that'll turn heads. Within, you'll find an exceedingly bland array of parts: an Atom Z520 processor, 1GB of RAM, GMA 500 integrated graphics, a 160GB hard drive (still with us?), three USB 2.0 sockets, a 1.3 megapixel camera, WiFi, Ethernet, Bluetooth and audio in / out jacks. If you aren't down with waiting to see what kind of netbook revolution coincides with the launch of Windows 7, you can order yours up from the links below for $429.99.
